Either way it's going to have to be completely re-wired from scratch to fix it. It sounds like overall these guys just did it the old fashioned way we've been installing alarms for the last 20 years and missed the whole digital CANBUS wagon, maybe they were lazy and hacked it, maybe not. They should at least give you the key back so you can unlock the car at the very least. You have no immobilizer now and you could even test it by taking the transponder pill out of one of your keys and trying to start the ignition.Ģ) They did it wrong because they used the entire key instead of just the transponder pill.

This is VERY important because wrapping wires around the key and the ignition cylinder constantly transmits the signal so it's like leaving a key in the ignition. The reason you want to use this is because the transponder signal is only transmitted during remote start. IIRC correctly there is one that works especially well with the 5901 and it is mentioned in that thread above. Here are some examples of the ones made by DEI (DEI makes Viper) It does have a shock sensor so it gives me some piece of mind.

Alarm install ($700ish - they are unfamiliar with VWs so they charged a bit more due to the time required). I dont have any of the other sensors installed because it took me 1k to fix up my car after the smash in. I dont know if they changed it or not because the car was all put together again. Took it back to them and they fixed the problem. Immobilizer went off every time i tried starting it. When i went the first day they tied the key to wires and then it went to the ignition cylinder. It took them two days/tries to make the system fully work.

After they added it, they said they could make the windows go up and down now. So im guessing the viper alarm is conflicting in someway with the vw alarm.įor the CANBUS question, i honestly say im not too sure, they said they needed a bypass or harness or something. Viper disarm - VW disarm - hatch pop : no

So to rephrase my question is: how do i make the hatch open instead of having my gas flap open? is it programming or wiring? So thats why i know it has something to do with the way the Viper system was programmed. Function 1 then AUX, gas flap opens only when disarmed. The installer told me if/when they wired it to have they have the hatch open, it didnt do anything because it doesnt pop, just unlatch, so they just made it so the gas flap opened. They never think about it until it already is giving them problems. I always get people asking me why their remote start/alarm has all these problems and leaves them stranded. I dunno if you care either way, but I just thought I'd mention it. They're supposed to use the key sensing ring. You might just have a transponder pill taped onto the ignition cylinder. Who knows how they dealt with the immobilizer issue. I wonder if they even connected the CANBUS or know that it exists or if they just hard wired everything. I don't know who installed it, but most installers just crimp the wires and they don't have the expertise (minimal) to deal with VW's. Otherwise it's just an expensive remote starter. Make sure you get the back-up battery and ultrasonic sensor installed with that alarm too. As far as the gas flap question I wasn't aware you could open the gas flap from your remote. You need to disarm before popping the hatch. If you remote start the car both alarms are still armed. If your hatch pop modification was done correctly it would work regardless. It is just armed and disarmed by the Viper 5901.īasically what I'm saying is the Viper is not the problem. The factory alarm isn't even disabled, it's still there.

It can't inhibit CANBUS functionality, it only inhibits starting.

The Viper 5901 sends and receives information from the CANBUS computer this way. If the Viper 5901 was installed correctly they just spliced the 5901 into the two digital CANBUS wires under your dashboard. How do you know it has something to do with the way the Viper 5901 is programmed if the Viper was installed before your hatch pop modification?
